VACATION
The new album from 25 year old New Glasgow one man band, Andrew Spicer, entitled Vacation, is a 71 minute ride into the depths of a brilliant mind. Packed with 15 songs of catchy, darker flavoured, pop rock, synthesizers and creative story telling.
The album starts out with a short monologue stating a thought provoking Point of Observation, "Isn't it strange how we love life, feel sombre when it's taken? Until we hate, then it's hunting season." In the song It Never Happened, Andrew talks about that coming of age moment in life when all of the plans in our childhood (what we want to be when we grow up) fall apart in adult life. "I found out all my friends are divorced are out of work paying child support." The first single Along Came Something I Didn't Expect, modestly talks about having true love drop out of thin air, "I called up my loneliness and put in my notice, saying along came something I didn't expect". The album closes out with an acoustic folk song, 2073, which is lyrically full of meaning and a haunting vocal melody in the end. Talking about looking out upon a town you once knew but now no longer recognize. One of supporting war with ribbons, a growing drug epidemic, ignorance and a general disconnection with reality.
Overall a great album that shows promise as being the next big thing to come from Nova Scotia.

Along Came Something I Didn't Expect (Single)
"...Almost all the songs I play I like, but sometimes you get one that strikes a chord and something about this one I really liked. It had just enough of a little edge that a lot of Home Made music doesn't always have...."
- Tony Butterworth (Home Made Hit Show)
"...He did lots of tiny little surprises in there. I like the hook that he did with the "ou ou ou" in there, I was thinking it was going to come back in there but he only did it once. ...."
- Dave Criddle (Home Made Hit Show)
